Anomalous Phenomena ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is an evidence-first, educational platform designed to allow users to explore, document, and analyze unusual observations. We take privacy seriously and are committed to being transparent about how data is collected, used, stored, and shared.

We collect information only as necessary to provide the core functionality of the App. Information may be collected directly from you, automatically through your device, or as a result of your interactions with the App.

You may choose to provide the following information when using the App:

• Observation reports, including text descriptions and optional notes
   
• Photos or videos that you choose to capture or upload
   
• Case notes and case organization data
   
• Optional alert preferences and configuration settings
   
• Account information if you choose to create an account
   

You may choose whether each submitted observation is public, anonymous, or private.

The App may access your device's camera, photo library, and microphone only when you explicitly choose to use those features, such as when submitting an observation.

• Camera access is used only to capture photos or video when you select a capture option
   
• Photo library access is used only to select existing media you choose to upload
   
• Microphone access is used only when recording video with audio
   

The App does not access media without your action and does not scan your photo library.

If you attach media to a report, it is uploaded to secure cloud storage (Supabase) so it can be displayed in the App, included in your cases, and used in shareable summaries. Media associated with private reports is not publicly visible.

The App may request access to your location while you are using the App. Location is used to:

• Prefill the location of a new observation you submit
   
• Show your position on the Explore map when you choose to center the map on yourself
   
• Calculate distances to nearby sightings and event clusters
   
• Support optional proximity-based alerts using a user-selected radius
   

You can browse global reports without providing location access. Location permissions can be changed or disabled at any time in your device settings.

The App may automatically collect limited technical information such as:

• Device type and operating system version
   
• App usage data related to feature performance
   
• Crash or error logs
   

This information is used to improve stability, performance, and reliability.

We use collected information to:

• Provide core App functionality
   
• Display submitted observations and cases
   
• Enable optional alerts and notifications
   
• Generate educational, probabilistic summaries and organizational tools
   
• Improve performance, security, and user experience
   

The App does not verify events, identify objects, or make determinations about authenticity or origin.

Some optional features use third-party AI services to generate educational summaries, similarity matches, or organizational insights.

• AI output is informational and probabilistic only
   
• AI is used as an assistive tool, not as a decision-maker
   
• Media is submitted for AI processing only if you explicitly choose an option that includes media
   
• Content submitted for AI processing is not used to train models by default and may be temporarily retained for service integrity or abuse prevention
   

We do not sell personal data.

Information may be shared only in the following circumstances:

• With service providers (such as cloud storage and notification services) necessary to operate the App
   
• When required by law, legal process, or government request
   
• To protect the rights, safety, or integrity of the App and its users
   

Public reports are visible to other users. Anonymous reports hide identifying account details. Private reports are visible only to you.

Data is stored using secure cloud infrastructure (including Supabase). We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You may:

• Choose public, anonymous, or private visibility for each report
   
• Disable camera, microphone, photo library, or location permissions via device settings
   
• Enable or disable alerts and notifications
   
• Delete your account (where applicable), which will remove associated personal data subject to legal retention requirements
   

Anomalous Phenomena is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you use the App outside the United States, you understand that your information may be processed and stored in jurisdictions with different data protection laws.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
